Sustainable innovations in tech: Cairn sets new standards with EnerPHit retrofit

Cairn's groundbreaking EnerPHit retrofit project in Wick has exceeded expectations, setting new standards for sustainability in social housing. Both retrofitted properties achieve impressive air permeability levels below 1 m3/h/m2 @50Pa, a first for a Scottish social landlord.

The initiative, supported by the Scottish Government Net Zero Heat Fund and key partners, aimed to explore the feasibility and practicalities of implementing EnerPHit standards. The transformative retrofitting, increasing insulation levels and eliminating the need for traditional heating, has significantly improved the Energy Performance Certificate rating from F to A. Celebrating this achievement, a special event showcased the project, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing among industry professionals. Cairn is optimistic that this successful pilot study will contribute to their Net Zero and fuel poverty alleviation efforts, while inspiring other housing associations to pursue similar pathways.
