“Jim loves tech because it kept his friend and neighbour safe at home for longer”

Concerns had been raised by a neighbour (Jim) about Mr Z going out multiple times through the day and night. Mr Z had Lilli installed which showed he went out regularly to walk his dog in the early evening. However, Lilli evidenced that he always returned home in a relatively short time. He wasn’t going out during the night. He also went out every day. Mr Z’s social care worker already knew that he went to the local supermarket and had done for many years. However, he was getting lost on his way home. The social care worker established that Mr Z was going to his friend’s house, who he’d known for many years, who was helping him to get home. This was felt to be safe.

During the time that Lilli was in situ, it became apparent that Mr Z was starting to go out more frequently, including at night time. This resulted in a planned change to his support, and it was agreed that a move to extra sheltered care would be more appropriate for him.

This avoided Mr Z’s continued decline and a crisis from occurring.

His social care worker felt that Lilli had kept Mr Z in his own home for six to seven months longer than would otherwise have been the case.
